How Does a Wireless Car Charger Work

Our lives are ruled by smart technology, from phones through to kitchen appliances. The biggest downfall with our modern gadgetry is the number of cables that are needed to keep them going. Waiting for your phone to reach a 30% battery level before you go to work has you rushing out the door, getting stuck in traffic and not being able to let the boss know you are late because your phone died. What you need is the technology that will work for you when you need it the most. A wireless car charger is an answer to your charging woes.

The Tesla Design

The concept of wireless charging has been around since the 19th century when Nikola Tesla demonstrated magnetic resonant coupling, the ability to transmit electricity through the air by creating a magnetic field between two circuits. Sadly this became technology without many practical applications, except perhaps a few electric toothbrush models which were only introduced to the market in the 1990s.

It might have taken more than 100 years for his concept to be used for more than a toothbrush, but the wait was worth it when the wireless car charger was introduced.

Tech Talk

For your phone to charge wirelessly, you need to have a charging pad. The charging pad must be attached to a flat surface for it to charge properly. Both the phone and the pad contain induction coils, which in layman’s terms are iron wrapped around copper wire. When the phone is placed on the pad, the proximity of the coils allows for an electromagnetic field to be created, allowing electricity to be passed from one coil (phone) to another coil (charging pad). The induction coil in your phone then transfers that conducted electricity to its battery and charges.

The Pros of a Car Charger

The biggest pro is the lack of cables. The only cable used is the one connected to the charging pad which is a universal standard and can be used for different model phones. Lugging battery chargers and cables with you is a thing of the past. Once your phone has been charged, the wireless charger automatically shuts off, preventing your battery from overheating.

Having a wireless car charger means that you can charge your phone anytime and anywhere.  The excuse; “oops, my battery died” just won’t cut it anymore.

Convenient Installation

The installation of a wireless car charger isn’t going to set you back a day. It only takes a couple of hours. You can try your hand at a little DIY and install it yourself, or you can pop into Electronic Fitment Centre and we will fit it for you. As an authorised fitment centre, Electronic Fitment Centre will accessorise your vehicle to your requirements.
