Smash and Grab Protection Trends: Enhancing Vehicle Security

Travelling through the urban jungle sometimes comes with the distinct disadvantage of falling prey to smash and grab incidents, especially at main intersections. Hoping that opportunistic crime doesn’t carry through from province to province is unfortunately an unrealistic expectation as statistics show a significant spike in hotspot areas. We at Electronic Fitment Centre would suggest that you consider applying smash and grab safety film before venturing into unchartered territory.

Smash and Grab Film: The Perfect Deterrent

As much as we would like to say that our smash and grab tints stop a bullet, we can’t. However, we can assure you that our Llumar smash & grab protection will deter would-be criminals, giving you precious seconds to get away, or if your vehicle is parked, ample time to alert passersby to what is happening. Unlike untreated windows that smash on impact, our smash and grab safety film shatters, keeping the glass intact. Selecting this film over other types of safety film comes with the added advantage of no signal interference, with mobile phones or GPS systems giving you the opportunity to always find the safest route.

Don’t Become a Statistic

At Electronic Fitment Centre, we take driver and passenger safety very seriously and would like to highlight preventative measures that you can take to avoid becoming a future smash and grab crime statistic. What you need to keep in mind is that smash and grab crimes are carried out swiftly and if would-be opportunists encounter any hurdles, they would prefer to move on rather than face any challenges.

Here are a few tips to help keep you safe:

  1. Always make sure your valuables are out of sight – this includes shopping bags.

  2. Don’t put any items, such as cell phones, purses, and wallets in the glove box or centre console. They may not be visible but if your vehicle is parked, it is quick and easy for criminals to open them.

  3. Doors should always be locked, windows closed, and car alarms activated.

  4. When travelling, be vigilant and constantly aware of your surroundings.

  5. Know the “hotspots” so that you can identify areas of risk beforehand.

  6. Avoid entertaining discussions with pedestrians.

  7. Keep an eye out for suspicious-looking individuals.

  8. When stopping at a busy intersection, keep a decent gap between your vehicle and the one in front of you. This will give you ample space to make a quick getaway should the need arise.

  9. Be especially weary if there is broken glass on the road.

  10. Late at night, slowly approach an intersection so that the light is green by the time you reach it.

Trust your instincts, and if you see suspicious activity, drive away or park somewhere else.
